hs, our focus has been on sensory play, colours, and creative expression. The children have been observed enjoying mark-making experiences, using a variety of utensils to create marks on paper. To make these e
xperiences more engaging and creative, we introduced different tools, including lash brushes, paintbrushes, forks, fly swatters, wheels, and cars. Each tool provided the children with opportunities to explore different textures, patterns, and ways of making marks, while discovering that there is more than one way to approach a creative experience.
Through these experiences, the children developed their creativity, curiosity, and confidence as they explored how different tools created different effects. They were able to use their senses to investigate textures and patterns while making choices about the tools they wanted to use. We also introduced primary colours and encouraged the children to experiment with mixing them. As they combined colours, they observed the changes that occurred and discovered that mixing primary colours created new, secondary colours. This provided opportunities to explore cause and effect while developing early scientific and mathematical thinking.
Moving forward, we will continue to extend the children's learning through sensory and colour-based experiences. We can introduce new materials, tools, and textures for mark-making and encourage the children to predict what might happen when different colours are mixed. We can also explore colour through nature, light, water, and other sensory materials. By providing open-ended opportunities for experimentation, the children can continue developing their creativity, problem-solving skills, and understanding of cause and effect.
